PVT
Mercury Free System:
The department has also recently acquired a unique mercury-free
DB ROBINSON PVT lab that is used to teach our PVT lab (PE
333), for research advances, and for industrial consulting
purposes. The modular design of this phase behavior system
allows multifunction usage. This system can be used to recombine
separator samples of hydrocarbon fluids, and allows for
broad range of PVT measurements on crude and condensates.
In this lab, high pressure cells are used to study bubble
point, dew point, PVT relationships, flash vapor liquid
equilibrium, differential liberation, flash vaporizations,
gas oil ratio, miscibility and liquid phase viscosity. Among
the properties measured by the system are:
-
Saturation
pressure
- Single-phase
fluid compressibility
- Vapor-liquid
phase volume determination
- Evolved vapor
quantity
- Measurement
of fluid properties such as density, viscosity and Decomposition
- Evolved liquid
phase property determination such as composition density,
and viscosity
At present, our
lab comprises the following pieces of equipment:
- Phase behavior
cell
- Temperature
controlling air bath
- Mixing mechanism
- Pressure generating
system
- Volumetric measurement
system
- Data acquisition
